Pupil Premuim

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 with the aim of narrowing the attainment gap between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and those who are not by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. It also includes Looked After Children and Services Children. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium and the impact it is having.

This additional funding is worked out on this basis:

£1320 for any child, per year, registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years  - if you are in receipt of Income Support, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190), Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit, Universal Credit.

However, from September 2014 all infant aged children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) have received their midday school meal free of charge. This additional Pupil Premium funding therefore does not include all children who are now eligible for free school meals at Key Stage 1 under the Universal Free School Meals scheme.

£1,900 for each looked-after pupil who has been looked after for 1 day or more, was adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005, or left care under a special guardianship order or a residence order.

£300 for pupils who are part of an Armed Forces family or whose parent/s are in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence.

Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium and the impact it is having.

If you think your child may be entitled to this additional funding please come in and talk to us in school as soon as you can. This funding will be used to benefit your child and our school as a whole.

You can also fill in the registration form below and drop it into the school office, for the attention of Mrs Hamilton, in confidence.
